Emergency declarations are required to be signed by local and state officials in order to trigger access to certain types of benefits under federal law. This is a government process designed to prepare, it is not a reason for alarm. New Orleans Mayor Cantrell signed an Emergency Declaration allowing City agencies to thoroughly prepare for and respond to any impending impacts. It also allows for a more streamlined response and for state and federal agencies to deploy resources, if necessary.
