The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Convention Center (NOENMCC) team is committed to reducing environmental impacts and helping our customers meet their sustainability goals.
We have implemented numerous energy-saving strategies, building upgrades and green initiatives to help reduce our facility’s carbon footprint — from reducing energy and water use to expanding our recycling and composting programs.

We continue to expand our recycling program, with recycling for attendees in the front of the house and dedicated collection areas for cardboard, metal, pallets, and plastic. See Dock Map for locations, and the Waste Diversion page for programs and policies.
Our food service provider, Centerplate/Sodexo, composts organic kitchen waste, and most serving-ware is plastic-free and made of biodegradable materials. Reusable and fully compostable serving-ware and composting for event food and beverage areas are available upon request.
We are also developing a Mardi Gras bead recycling program.
As part of an ongoing $557-million capital improvements plan, the NOENMCC has completed major upgrades designed to make the facility better for all who enter.
Our new 7.5-acre pedestrian park includes 200 trees and features rain gardens to help manage stormwater.
We replaced 1.9 million square feet of traditional roofing with a new, energy-efficient “cool roof” system to help divert heat away from our building and neighborhood.
As part of our LEED certification, we have many green building practices in place.
We have reduced outdoor light pollution, improved green cleaning policies and integrated pest management and switched to more environmentally friendly refrigerants.
Electric vehicle charging stations are available to attendees in the parking lot adjacent to our facility.
The NOENMCC, in partnership with our food service provider Centerplate/Sodexo, regularly donates food to local organizations, including substance abuse treatment facility Bethel Colony.
We assist our exhibitors in donating thousands of pounds of food to Second Harvest Food Bank each year.
We overhauled our lighting and air conditioning systems — replaced 5,000 light fixtures and changed out two cooling towers — to increase efficiency and reduce energy use.
In addition to constantly monitoring our energy usage, we have an automated scheduling system that turns off escalators and reduces light and HVAC requirements in unoccupied areas.
The 87 water bottle filling stations we installed have already saved the equivalent of more than 300,000 plastic water bottles from landfills.
We upgraded 37 sets of restrooms with low-flow fixtures to cut down on water use.
