New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Recycles Mardi Gras Beads for Earth Day

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center hosted a Mardi Gras Bead sorting event for faculty and staff on April 22 to celebrate Earth Day and Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s “Love the Boot Week.” Staff sorted through 2,626 pounds of beads that the Convention Center diverted from landfills during the Mardi Gras season.

Convention Center staff sorted the beads by size, color and Krewe for The Arc of Greater New Orleans to sell back to Mardi Gras Krewes as a fundraising initiative. The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is committed to successful Mardi Gras seasons and continuous growth in sustainability.

The event was held to improve the overall sustainability of the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center and activate staff on Earth Day. The Mardi Gras Bead Recycling Program at NOENMCC is a unique initiative that our Convention Center takes to support the local community and our largest city-wide event: Mardi Gras.
